Wedding season is now upon us! For those of you who have just become engaged (maybe you enjoyed a May bank holiday proposal) then congratulations, you’re at the beginning of your wedding planning journey. For those of you putting the finishing touches to a late-summer celebration then take inspiration from our local real-life wedding couples and advice from a host of expert regional suppliers.

Then be sure to read my review of Buckinghamshire’s beautiful Burnham Beeches Hotel on page 31 where I was lucky enough to dine on their delicious afternoon tea before retiring to the pool for some much-needed rest.

Shaw House
This 16th-century, Grade 1 listed building offers an abundance of character and charm, set in extensive lawned gardens with three stylish rooms available for ceremonies. The Register Office can host two people plus two witnesses and best suits couples who want a small, personal ceremony. It also works well for those who have chosen to hold a larger celebration at an alternative venue and need to do the legalities beforehand.
The Ceremony Room accommodates up to 46 guests and allows the opportunity for a more detailed ceremony involving music, extended vows, readings and personal vows. This room is usually available on Fridays and Saturdays.
The Great Hall was licensed in 2023 and is a charming room which benefits from a longer aisle and capacity for up to 100 guests. The team can tailor make an extended ceremony to fit each couple’s preferences and those choosing this room will have the option of booking a drinks reception to follow immediately afterwards. The room is usually available on Saturdays at 3 pm and is the perfect choice for couples wanting a larger gathering.
